IN 2012, WE DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY. NOW WE HAVE GROWN TO A LARGE-SCALE PRODUCTION AND WANT TO BE SURE IN EVERY STAGE OF IT. WE DO NOT POSITION OURSELVES AS A COMPLETELY ETHICAL AND SUSTAINABLE BRAND. WE ARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE WAY AND STRIVE TO DO EVERYTHING STEP BY STEP, STARTING WITH WHAT WE CAN DO ALREADY NOW.

REUSE & RECYCLE

Last year, UPDATE YOUR SHU campaign became a large-scale collection of unnecessary items from past SHU collections. We received 1 ton of clothes and sent it to the Second Wind Foundation.

65% of items were sent to charity, 35% — for recycling.

Our goal is to make recycling an essential part of SHU. We want to nurture the idea of REUSE AND RECYCLE from the buying stage. At the same time, we want to make sure that the whole process is easy and voluntary.

SHU ARCHIVE

In April 2021, we opened the first SHU ARCHIVE stock store to address the textile waste problems relevant for all brands. We started with something that we can do already now and launched SHU ARCHIVE where we presented clothes with minor manufacturing defects, samples and models from previous seasons. For the summer of 2021, we have planned the release of the first limited collection made from fabric leftovers, where we will repeat the iconic models of clothing and accessories, as well as present new ones. This line will be accompanied by special tags, where we will indicate that the item is made from the leftover materials.

MATERIALS

One of our goals is complete transition to ethical production and to the usage of certified fabrics. We work with DuPont ™ Sorona® and use only eco-friendly insulation which is an alternative to animal materials. This insulation was developed by scientists, who created bio-down based on plant materials — the down contains 37% of natural ingredients obtained from corn. Bio-down is produced by natural fermentation, which can significantly reduce production waste, as well as minimize the harmful effect of polymer materials on the environment. It is environmentally friendly, hypoallergenic, flexible and easy to use.

WARRANTY

We want our customers to be confident in their choice and not doubt that a purchased item will last for a long time. By purchasing clothes from SHU, you receive an official warranty, the duration of which depends on the category of the product. At the same time, we are always ready and open for communication. Even if a manufacturing defect shows up after the expiration of the warranty period, we will accept the item for a free repair. This allows us to extend the life of clothes and to build trust with our customers.

If the damage of the product is caused by an accident, we can always offer tailoring services. We have additional accessories and other components for each model. If there are no original components, we will offer alternative solutions. During the repair of winter clothes, we offer models from current collections for a temporary replacement.

In 2021, we want to open our own atelier and offer cleaning services, which will significantly increase the life of the items you purchase.

LONGEVITY

Every season, we try to create modern clothing, while taking into account its versatility. This allows us to produce models that will be relevant for a long time. We hold on to simple shapes and laconic cuts.

Our idea is to create universal models that can last for a long time.

We are also sure that attention and proper care for things can significantly extend their service life. We're currently working on a care guide for garment culture with instructions, tips and tricks to help you keep your favorite items in good shape.

PRODUCTION

We are in close contact with factories and only work with trusted partners. However, it is hard to avoid problems with fabric leftovers and small manufacturing defects. To change the situation, we came up with the idea of the SHU ARCHIVE project. This is a stock store where we present clothes with minor defects that do not affect the functionality of the model — an uneven seam, a small stain or a snag. In summer 2021, a limited collection made from the fabric leftovers will be available in SHU ARCHIVE. Thus, we strive for a more rational use of our resources, including production.

OUR CULTURE

We do our best to ensure that the processes within the team meet the brand’s values. Our management is based on cooperation, mutual support and trust. It is important for us that the atmosphere in the team is always light and friendly, and the working conditions are as comfortable as possible. In the beginning of 2021, we moved to a new spacious office that meets all modern requirements.

Since last year, we have started to sort waste. Our partner is the “Sphere of Ecology” company, which conducted an audit and training on the waste management system. Once every two weeks, “Sphere of Ecology” collects the waste and provides the necessary reporting.

OBJECTIVES

We do not want to stop and are planning to gradually revise all our work processes. We have several goals that we plan to achieve in the next two years:

— Using organic cotton and other certified fabrics
— Developing collections from recycled materials
— Redesigning packaging and moving towards more sustainable materials
— Clear planning and projecting for five years ahead
